Are You Remembering This Crucial Ingredient?

Parental conversion and example are a bigger part of our “Come Follow Me” program than we realize. We can’t give what we don’t have.

Awhile back, I was so focused on how a certain child needed to improve her personal scripture study, that I didn’t look inward and notice my OWN neglect of personal scripture study.

When I realized my hypocrisy, it was actually empowering. I couldn’t persuade her to develop a closer relationship with God at that time. But I had MY agency, and I could choose to do those things for myself.

By feeding ourselves spiritually, we have more to give to our families.

“Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men.” (D&C 11:21)

The two videos I shared about storytelling (see article from the last post) both illustrate beautifully that if we will PAY the PRICE to get the scriptures INTO us, then we can offer it to others with power.

Often that power comes through our EXAMPLE. What your children SEE speaks a lot louder than what they HEAR.

What do your children see of your personal worship? Do they ever “catch you” studying the scriptures or praying? Do they know you have “a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ?”

If you are you skipping this key ingredient, resolve to spend just a few minutes each day in a personal scripture study. This is your first step to a better “Come Follow Me” with your family.
