5 more days until Valentine’s Day. What’s the best thing you could give that special someone?
Chocolates? Flowers? A love note? A date?
Those all are nice. But what really matters, is what’s BEHIND the gift.
What we really WANT and NEED is MORE LOVE in our relationships.
More love FOR them. And more love FROM them.
Try this experiment with me this week. My students and I do this every semester, and it works!
Choose a relationship in your life that needs some TLC.
It could be a spouse, child, parent, significant other, friend, co-worker, etc.
Each day this week, I’ll post a new challenge. A small, simple thing you can DO to strengthen your relationship.
By Valentine’s Day, your relationship will be different—You’ll experience more love, greater enjoyment together, healing from past wounds, better conversations, and more. And the fun thing about the experiment is, you’ll notice a change in them.
Ready? Let’s do this!
CHALLENGE #1: Pray for more love.
When we were newlyweds, I was surprised to hear my husband, Paul, pray for our love to grow. Our love seemed good already, and I didn’t think we were experiencing marital problems. But Paul had the big picture in mind, and he knew we needed God to get us there.
Whatever amount of love you already feel for the person you chose, God can make it bigger. God is the source of all love. He is love. He has infinite love in Him for you and them.
Moroni, a Book of Mormon prophet, taught that if we want more love for someone, we can pray for it, and God will place HIS love for them into our hearts (Moroni 7:48).
Jesus also taught about praying for more love when he taught us to love our enemies, and pray for them (Matt. 5:44). If the person you’ve chosen has felt at times like an “enemy”, then praying for them can heal YOUR heart, give you more compassion for their circumstance, and fill you with forgiveness.
In EVERY prayer this week, pray for more love for them. You’ll be amazed at how God answers that prayer.
