The Importance of DUNG

In Jacob 5, the Lord of the Vineyard used “dung” to help save his trees.

We all know what dung is, right? And it makes sense. Some of the best fertilizers are made of manure.

Well, if we are looking for comparisons to our own lives, we can see that the Lord often uses “dung” to help us to flourish.

The “dung” in our lives are the situations that “stink”: the afflictions, trials and (excuse my language!) the “crap” we experience.

Trials are a necessary part of spiritual growth. They can stretch our souls, and keep us humbly seeking God’s help.

If we look back over our lives, we can see that the hardest times were the times we grew the most.

At a time in the world when so many are suffering, experiencing sickness, losing loved ones, dealing with economic struggles, adjusting to unexpected changes that are out of our control and stressful, we can see God’s hand. He allows these and other hardships, as part of His loving efforts to “preserve” us.

We can look at our own personal struggles and ask the Lord, “What do you want me to learn from this 'dung'?”

Because He does want us to grow from it.

“All these things shall give thee experience and shall be for thy good” (D&C 122:7)

What are you learning and how are you growing from the dung in your life right now?
